Welcome to your Feedback Guide

Below you will find some general guidelines and examples for providing feedback. This helps us to communicate clearly, allows us to make any refinements required, and ensures we are aligned in reaching your desired outcome.

Feedback Due: MM/DD/YYYY

General Guidelines

To help with this process, here are a few things to keep in mind when providing constructive feedback:

  • Refer to the brief and deliverables as a refresher before completing feedback.
  • Be honest, but constructive.
  • Be specific. Provide as much detail as you can for clarity and direction in your refinement process. If you can provide specific examples or screenshots, that’s helpful!
  • Be clear on the specific element(s) your feedback is pertaining to.
  • If you require changes, please provide specific instructions on what these are. For example, change the button on the home page from ‘Sign up’ to ‘Access now’.
  • When making requests, if you can provide specific examples, links, or screenshots, that’s helpful!
  • Always keep your ideal client and their user experience top of mind.
  • Please complete feedback and return within X working days.

Key Questions to Ask
Key Questions to Ask
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What is the problem that we’re trying to solve?
  • What desired outcome do you want your audience to take?
  • What emotion are you trying to evoke in your audience?
  • What are the key deliverables and criteria?

Feedback Examples

“I don’t like the design.”

We want to ensure the completed design meets your desired outcome and expectation. That means we need to have a strong understanding of what you don’t like and why you don’t like it. This will provide clarity and direction for making refinements in line with your vision.

Questions to help
  • What don’t you like about the design?
  • Which specific elements are you referring to?
  • Is this related to the color, typography, images, or layout?
  • Which parts of the design are not in alignment with the design brief?
  • Which parts of the design don’t meet your user’s needs?
  • Which parts would you remove or add to?
  • Do you have specific examples of what you would like to see instead? Share them here.

“I don’t like it. This doesn’t work for me.”

The font isn’t readable and I’d like the button on the home page changed from ‘Sign Up’ to ‘Access Now’.

“Make it Pop.”

Design is subjective. When using these phrases, you might have a really clear idea of what that means. As designers, we might have entirely different interpretation. To help us take your design to that place, it’s important we know exactly what that means to you. Visual examples through images and links are particularly helpful in translating the vision you have for your website.

Questions to help
  • What do you define as ‘pop’?
  • Which specific elements are you referring to?
  • Is this related to the color, typography, images, or layout?
  • Do you have specific examples of what you would like to see instead? Share them here.
  • What are users of your site looking to see and feel?

Example

I find the colors a little bland. Could we add some vibrancy with bolder colors. Perhaps, a red like this website [insert link].

“My friend said this isn’t really my personality.”

It’s natural to want to show your new design to friends and family but it’s also important to keep in mind, this site was designed for your target audience. A lot of user research and strategy has gone into creating a design in line with the brief. That means when providing feedback, we need to look through the lens of the end user. Does this provide a good experience for them? This is how we ensure that your end design achieves your desired outcome.

In these instances, if you’d like feedback, it can be helpful to share with a few trusted clients who have a deep understanding of their own needs and the experience they have working with you.

Questions to help
  • Is this design easy to navigate?
  • Are the buttons on the site clear and actionable?
  • Does the design meet the criteria laid out in the design brief?
  • Is the text and imagery clear and readable?

“I asked 3 of my top clients what they thought and 2/3 suggested the pricing needs to be higher up on the services page. This was one of the first questions they had when reaching out.”
