Let's Get Started!
What is Notion Mail
Note that
Notion Mail will only work with Google accounts during the GA launch - whether it’s a generic @gmail address or a custom domain.
Notion Mail will be available on web and mac desktop during the GA launch.
Notion Mail is free for all users, for access to Notion AI to label incoming emails and get writer help, users will need to purchase a Notion AI add-on.
- Users will have free AI trial to experience the value—free trial is mutually exclusive from Notion’s free AI trial.
- Mail is currently only available in English, with intentions of localizing in Q2.
For existing Notion users
They can sign in with their Notion account (Mail account will be tied to the login email → Notion Mail account = Notion account)
Notes
- If a Notion user signs up for Mail with a new Google account, we will also create a new Notion account, associated with this Mail account.
- Mail can only be enabled by an individual user. Workspace admins cannot set up a bulk-sign up for the entire workspace.
- Users cannot link to multiple email addresses in one Notion account. The email that used in Notion Mail will be the email that is tied to the Notion account
Edge cases
Multiple logged in Notion accounts
Each Gmail address needs its own separate Notion account to use Notion Mail. If you're logged into multiple accounts, you'll only be able to access Notion Mail with accounts that have been specifically invited to use the feature. Otherwise, mail.notion.so will redirect you to regular Notion.
Example:
Multiple aliases
If users link multiple Gmail aliases to the same account, they won't be able to sign up for a new Notion account with the linked aliases.
For example, if a@gmail.com signs up for Notion Mail and has b@gmail.com as a linked alias, they can use b@gmail.com to send emails within their account. However, they cannot create a separate Notion Mail account using b@gmail.com.
If a user wants to switch or add Notion Mail additional access for a different email, they should send a message to our team at team@makenotion.com

1. Writing with Notion Style
Notion Mail lets you write emails with Notion Style using the slash command. You can add elements like Headings, Bulleted lists, Callouts, and more. Simply use the compose new email button on top left or use short “c” to start writing a new email.
You can also insert snippets - reusable email templates - schedule meetings, and insert recurring calendar holds via the /menu.
2. Respond with Quick Replies
With Quick Replies, you can generate a contextual draft with just one click, much like analogous quick replies in Gmail (and now Superhuman).
3. Write with AI Assistant
You can summon an AI writer to help drafting an email with the space command.
The draft will be generated based on the context of the email threads. You can mention a Notion doc across all your Notion workspace and use it as context for draft generation.
4. Save time using snippets
Use snippets to save time and never send the same response again. Snippets can be saved through the Settings menu or in compose window.
A snippet does than plain text. It can include recipients (to/cc/bcc), attachments, and even placeholders with a bracket syntax, like
{name}
.5. Scheduling (Mail <> Calendar)
Share your availability with a scheduling link, right from your inbox. Just type
/schedule
to select your availability.Key things to note
- Calendar scheduling is included with Mail—no extra sign up needed. When you connect your email, your Gmail calendar will be connected)
- If user has linked multiple calendars to Notion Calendar, they will be able to see the availability from multiple calendars.
6. View + Filters
Views in Notion Mail surface emails that matter to you. They allow you to customize what data is displayed using filters, group by, and adding or hiding properties. Users can choose to change their group by and filter settings through the “Filter” or “Group” menu on top of inbox or each view.

There are two ways to create views
- Automatically: You can find automatically suggested views, based on the contents of your mail, at the bottom of the sidebar
- Manually: You can hit the ‘+’ icon in the “Views” section of your sidebar to configure a new view manually. For example, you can create a view that filters on one of your existing Gmail labels.
- Views can include emails from more than one labels or categories while Gmail label sidebar can only be one view <> one label.
- Views can filter emails by sender/domain—not limited to labels.
- Similar to Superhuman’s split inbox: Views can include/exclude archived emails, allowing users to create separate inboxes for different workflows and needs.
- Emails within views can be grouped for further organization. e.g. Users can group emails by company domain to quickly locate messages from clients.
Compared to the Gmail sidebar, Notion is more powerful and flexible. How:
7. AI Autopilot
Set up AI to label incoming emails based on what’s important to you to keep your inbox tidy. Access AI to auto label from the top right. You can either set up your own label, or use suggested ones from AI that learns from your inbox.

When setting up a new label, you can either split related emails into a dedicated view or keep it in your inbox.

Train Notion AI on which emails match the label you want to set up. Notion AI will only train incoming emails (will not apply to past emails).
If you have chosen to split labeled emails from your inbox, you will land on a newly created view.
